Page title: Future Policy Options

The governments and other interested parties can call on various strategies to improve the detection, suppression and prevention of the illegal trade, including the following:

· Increased quantification and diagnostic analysis of illegal logging trade, discovering its main causes and agents
· Reform of the policy and legal framework
· Strengthening government institutions
· Improving relations between the government and forest industry
· Increasing knowledge and data on the nation’s forest resources.

However, there are multiple and wide-ranging causes of forest sector illegalities. Therefore, the corrective strategies should be applied in different forms and intensities according to the specific context of each. A significant part of the solution consists in determining which actions should receive priority, and in which sequence they should be applied.
